Hi, It’s Hapi reporting for the WCHC on the
2008 HCA National Specialty held August 26-30 in Richmond, VA. WCHC club member Laura Pfab was the Chairperson and did an exceptional job,
with her volunteers, on making the Specialty a huge success.
This was not just a dog show, it was a
Havanese Convention. Seminars were held, club meetings, parties, dinners,
Junior Handlers, and the Regional Specialty was on Thursday August 28. There was so many Havs in attendance, they
were all over the place. There were companion Havs, therapy Havs, rescue Havs,
show Havs and, let’s not forget our veteran Havs. It was huge! I got to meet a
lot of really nice Havs and their parents. Oh ya, many of them were WCHC club
members. It was so much fun.
I didn’t get to show in the National
Specialty this year because I was the Havanese Ambassador being the logo gal.
The winners think they are the top dog? Oh no, I was the top dog
this year! My picture was everywhere! On all the banners and posters, the
catalog, people were wearing my picture on their t-shirts, the blankets they
were covering up with (it was cold), the water bottles they were drinking from,
their coffee mugs, and they even had me on their bags they were carrying. WOW!
I was everywhere. The people just loved me and thought I was so cute. WCHC club members Laura and Kirsten Pfab
managed the sell of the all this merchandise and Karen Sako created the logo
and obtained all the merchandise. Thanks Ladies for helping me be a star and
raise funds for the HCA.
Friday night Mom and Dad went to a dinner
party with the grown ups. They won some really nice stuff in a raffle and they
told me that there was some even better stuff being auctioned. It was a fund
raiser so that HCA can continue doing all the nice things they do for us Havs.
We are very fortunate to have such a good bunch of people to love us Havs so
much.
Saturday night Mom and Dad went to the
Awards Banquet. They looked really nice and all dressed up. Mom told me that
many of our club members got awards for health testing, breeder awards, and
some even got awards for number of champions produced. Mom said it was really
nice for the parents and the Havs to be recognized for all their hard work. I
had to stay in the hotel room with yoR, Bee, and Bee Stings 2 & 3. I was
disappointed because I was so looking forward to hanging with my friends at the
dog sitting. Mom said they were not able to have the dog sitting and something
about volunteers. Oh well, I’m glad that Mom and Dad had a night out.
The Show was amazing and huge! Bee had to
wait so long for her turn in the ring that she took a nap on her grooming table
while waiting. She told me that she had four paws in the air and was snoring!
When the Breed competition began, all the Specials and Winners went into the ring
together. It was a huge ring, 4 times the normal size. The line of Havs wrapped
around the ring 1 ½ times. yoR and Mom were in the middle of line and the
Winners Gal was in front of them, that’s how big it was. yoR told me that it
was such a huge honor to just be a part of that. Wow, what a sight!
I do have to give a huge Congratulations to
all the boys and girls that got the trophies and rosettes in the 2008 HCA
National Specialty, it was beautiful Winners
Circle
On behalf of my fellow Havanese, I would
like to extend a Heartfelt Thank-you to HCA and our WCHC Club members for
loving us so much!
So until next year in the Windy City of Chicago, keep
your tails wagging,
Hapi
